Adjustable brightness dive lights are a must for any diver, no matter your level of experience. They help you explore your dive area and are quite handy at uncovering potential problem spots that you might not see otherwise (especially at night). They have an advantage over traditional dive lights, too. For instance, with an adjustable brightness dive light you can extend the light’s battery power. This, by default, can extend your dive time, so long as you still have air in your tank.
These types of dive lights are dimmed by twisting the top of the light, pushing a button or manipulating a switch. There are a variety of different makes and models – some designs, however, are standouts.
Two Great Dive Light Options
Take the Light and Motion Sola 1200, for instance. Its small 10 ounce size might fool you, but its 1200 lumen output will not. It securely attaches via a Velcro mount to your wrist and will burn for more than a solid hour at full capacity. Burn time is almost tripled when using the torch’s low-power mode. It’s a $700 investment, but the light is built to last.
If you need something a little more wallet-friendly, try the Tektite Excursion LS4 or LS5. Tektite is well known for creating rugged flashlights. These two models feature one-piece construction and are priced at just over $200. A solid aluminum bar is the backbone and the LED lights will last more than 10,000 hours. The first model will burn for a full 6 hours at its highest setting, 240 lumens. The LS5 will burn for around 2 1/2 hours with an output of 750 lumens. Dial the output back on each to yield almost three times more use.
Either of the lights mentioned above would make great choices. They allow you to fully explore your surroundings with extra features like beam narrowing and strobe modes. Adjustable brightness options will keep you right where you want to be… underneath the water.
